Michigan Urology Global Health Update

Michigan Urology Global Health Rwanda

Drs. Efe Chantal Simons, Priyanka Gupta, and Stephanie Kielb visited Rwanda in May for a surgical mission focused on treating obstetric fistula. During their trip, they also bolstered their partnership with the Rwandan Urological Association by delivering lectures on research methodology and pelvic organ prolapse. Dr. Kielb dedicated an additional day to teaching about the use of bowel in reconstruction, as well as the evaluation and management of overactive bladder. Continuing this collaboration, Drs. Simpa Salami and Lindsey Herrel are set to lead the inaugural oncology teaching workshop this coming August.

Michigan Urology also continues our partnership in Dakar, Senegal, with Drs. Priyanka Gupta and Parth Patel. This May marked our inaugural international resident rotation where Dr. Patel was able to integrate with the Senegalese team and participate in rounds, teaching, and surgery. Dr. Gupta provided teaching on the management of pelvic organ prolapse to the residents and in the OR. We look forward to developing our resident exchange program with the Senegalese team and embarking on joint research projects in the next year.
