About
My career in ophthalmology has been driven by a commitment to rigorous research, mentorship, and meaningful service. My laboratory investigates neuro-inflammation, glial activation, and angiogenesis, aiming to advance treatment for vision-threatening diseases such as diabetic retinopathy and address persistent health disparities. Through high-impact publications and collaborative, federally funded projects, my work has contributed important tools and insights benefiting the broader research community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I sustained research momentum and productivity by adapting to new technological approaches and flexible study designs, resulting in successful grants and ongoing innovation. I am dedicated to developing opportunities for the continuous growth of others, leading national committees, mentorship programs, and advisory groups that empower trainees and junior faculty to pursue excellence in academic medicine. My individualized mentorship has helped numerous mentees attain competitive placements, research accomplishments, and national recognition. Locally, nationally, and internationally, I am recognized for my leadership, invited lectureships, involvement on scientific panels and editorial boards, and initiatives to foster equitable recruitment and retention within ophthalmology. My clinical practice centers on compassionate care for pediatric patients, always with a focus on evidence-based excellence. These combined efforts reflect a sustained record of achievement in scholarship, mentorship, service, and leadership. Seeking promotion to Associate Professor, I am committed to furthering research advancements, nurturing future leaders, and elevating academic medicine at Michigan and beyond.
