    Research Overview

Dr. Branford completed her undergraduate degree with a BS in Biology at the University of Toledo, followed by medical school and a Med-Peds residency at the University of Cincinnati. After spending seven years at the University of Utah, She joined the University of Michigan in 2005. Currently, She serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor in Med-Peds and have been the Associate Chief Medical Information Officer (ACMIO). Associate Medical Director for Healthcare IT for the past nine years and have newly been appointed as a Well-being Lead. In addition to my administrative roles, I still practice medicine, dedicating 40% of my time to seeing patients.

In her administrative roles, she undertakes a multitude of projects aimed at enhancing workflow efficiency, reducing clinician burnout, improving patient satisfaction, and optimizing healthcare technology at Michigan Medicine. These initiatives involve refining in-basket management, advancing EHR (MiChart) proficiency through data-driven insights, and employing AI to streamline communication and ease time requirements and cognitive burden of charting. Through collaboration with various departments and workgroups, I focus on standardizing procedures, improving in-basket cleanliness, enhancing clinical documentation, refining referral processes, and improving HCC/payment. Additionally, She is instrumental in leveraging data from the Epic Signal Dashboard to identify and mitigate inefficiencies and burnout. She also drive initiatives under the KLAS Arch Collaborative to benchmark and enhance EHR experiences and participate in committees to improve coding, documentation, and clinical decision support systems. Her work aims to foster a more effective, connected, and user-friendly healthcare environment, linking various organizational silos for cohesive progress.
