I am a student looking for an opportunity to get involved in research, perhaps in the summer or during the school year. What are my options?

There are a number of programs that offer research opportunities for students:

If you have a specific area of interest, you can use our Michigan Experts search tool to find U-M researchers who have published work on that topic by doing a keyword search. Once you have found someone who appears to be a good match, you can find their contact information in MCommunity, the U-M online directory.

Is there any way to get a part-time or volunteer research position at the Medical School?

For part-time work, visit the University of Michigan jobs website.

For volunteer work, you can use our Michigan Experts search tool to find U-M researchers who have published work on a specific topic by doing a keyword search. Once you have found someone who appears to be a good match for your interests, you can find their contact information in MCommunity, the U-M online directory. If the researcher agrees to consider you as a volunteer, connect with Michigan Medicine Volunteer Services to complete your application.

Where can I find research employment opportunities at the University of Michigan Medical School?

The website for finding research positions, along with all employment opportunities, at the University of Michigan is careers.umich.edu.

My child is still in high school and wants to get involved in science or research at the University of Michigan. Is that possible?

U-M’s Youth Hub website describes a number of summer programs for high school and middle school students.

I am an international scholar. I want to come to the University of Michigan to work in research for a short period of time. What is available for me?

Unfortunately, we don’t have an organized program for foreign scholars who wish to participate in research at the University of Michigan.

The Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research (MICHR) provides information for study volunteers at their UMHealthResearch.org website.

You can also visit researchmatch.org for other opportunities.

Is there any way I can find out who has expertise on a certain disease or condition at the University of Michigan Medical School?

Yes. You can use our Michigan Experts search tool to find U-M researchers who have published research on a particular disease or condition. You can do a keyword search which will return the names of researchers who have published in that field. You can then find their contact information in MCommunity, the U-M online directory.
