Kevin C. Bergquist
Bergquist is the internal communication strategist in the executive vice president for medical affairs/dean’s office in Michigan Medicine Administration. He develops internal and external communications programs and materials for Medical School initiatives, and provides communications, administrative and project support to Medical School operations, which includes the Michigan Medicine Department of Communication. Bergquist has a B.S. in communications from Illinois State University and a M.A. in communications from Eastern Michigan University.

University of Michigan and Medical School alumnus and CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Sanjay Gupta, M.D., will deliver the 2026 Commencement address. The ceremony will be 3-5 p.m. on May 15 in Hill Auditorium.

Medical School’s annual advancement celebration is a true ‘Neuro-fest’
Women have made significant strides in their careers at the University of Michigan — including in the fields of medicine and science — but there is work to be done. The theme echoed throughout the Celebrating the Advancement of Women in Academic Medicine and Science event on Feb. 27 in the D. Dan and Betty Kahn Auditorium at the A. Alfred Taubman Biomedical Science Research Building. The gathering celebrated women who are transforming the fields of health care, science, and education. It also included presentation of the Karin Muraszko, M.D., Advancing Women in Academic Medicine and Science Award to Eva L. Feldman, M.D., Ph.D., and Dawn O. Kleindorfer, M.D.

On Oct. 16, the Board of Regents approved the appointment of Douglas C. Noll, Ph.D., as interim chair of Biomedical Engineering (BME), effective Jan. 1, 2026, while the College of Engineering and Medical School conduct a search for the next chair.

Eighteen from UMMS honored with 2025 Endowment for Basic Sciences Awards
Nine Medical School faculty members and nine research staff members have been recognized for their contributions to teaching and research with Endowment for Basic Sciences (EBS) Awards for 2025. Each of the nine UMMS basic science departments select a winner for each award. This year’s recipients received their awards June 12 during a ceremony in the Medical School.

On June 10, the University of Michigan Medical School honored the 42 faculty members who were appointed to named professorships in 2024. A named professorship is one of the highest honors bestowed on a faculty member. Medical School leadership gathered with the honorees for a reception in the Gilbert S. Omenn Atrium in the A.
