Dr. Lisa Meeks wins 2024 Macy Foundation Catalyst Award

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) announced the awards on Tuesday, January 16.

The initiative led by Dr. Meeks and her Docs with Disabilities co-director and colleague Justin Bullock, MD, from the University of Washington, focuses on creating a hub to house resources about disability inclusion in graduate medical education. The goal is to increase the likelihood of medical residents and fellows receiving reasonable accommodation in their various training programs to promote better learner wellness outcomes. 

DLHS Vice-chair Gretchen Piatt, Ph.D., MPH, described Dr. Meeks’ project as having “the potential to revolutionize how medical education addresses disability and is poised to make a lasting impact in the field of graduate medical education.”

Dr. Piatt called the Macy Foundation Catalyst Award “a testament to the importance of championing diversity and accessibility to improve the experience of learners in the healthcare system.”

The multi-media hub envisioned by the initiative  will include “information on topics such as normalizing disability inclusion, creating safe environments for disclosing disabilities, and meeting legal obligations for disability inclusion.”
