About This Event

This multi-day, virtual workshop runs from June 5 to June 7. Each day will go from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. This is for researchers who manage lots of data and/or execute compute-intensive analyses. It illustrates best practices around data management, software management, and task automation in the U-M information technology (IT) ecosystem.

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Manage software requirements in a modular, portable fashion using modules (lmod), Conda, and containers (Docker/Singularity)
  • Submit jobs to Great Lakes High-Performance Computing Cluster using basic SLURM commands (e.g., squeue) and also using workflow managers (e.g., Snakemake)
  • Describe data storage resources available at U-M, best practices for different kinds of data, and how to use Globus File Transfer to transfer and share data

Details:

  • This workshop is open only to learners associated with the University of Michigan.
  • The cost is $390 per seat and shortcodes are accepted.
  • Registration closes on Wednesday, May 27, 2024.
  • The workshop is entirely online and will be conducted over Zoom and Slack.
  • This workshop assumes at least some familiarity or experience working with a command line (Previous attendance in a Computational Foundations workshop or Software Carpentry workshop is sufficient).
  • The workshop experience is designed to be interactive and includes a combination of lecture, live-coding, independent exercises, and opportunities for questions throughout.
  • Refunds of workshop fees for cancellations are possible prior to the close of registration on May 22, 2024.
