About
Dr. Ibtissam Gad is a rheumatologist and medical educator with a scholarly focus on advancing clinical education in rheumatology. She completed the Baccalaureate/MD Accelerated Program at the University of Toledo College of Medicine. She completed her internal medicine training with an adjacent Leadership in Medical Education Track at University Hospitals/Case Western. As a Clinical Assistant Professor at Case Western Medical School, Dr. Gad actively employed innovative and active learning techniques in medical school education. She then pursued a fellowship in adult rheumatology at Henry Ford Health in Detroit. She is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Michigan, where she received a certificate for completing the Medical Educators Scholars Program and the RISE Innovator's Program. She is actively involved in the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) and has served in various capacities within the organization, including the Chair of the Fellows-In-Training Subcommittee and member of the Committee of Education. Her work centers on curriculum development, simulation-based training, and innovative teaching strategies designed to improve diagnostic and examination skills among medical trainees. She is a co-author of several peer reviewed rheumatology educational content including Rheum2Learn and Rheum for Primary Care. She has also developed the first published low-cost low-fidelity simulator to help learners assess small joint swelling as seen in inflammatory arthritis. She is particularly interested in evaluating the effectiveness of educational interventions using mixed-methods research and in developing scalable training models that enhance learner competency and ultimately improve patient care.
