About
Dr. Paulson is the Lucile Groff Professor of Neurology in the Department of Neurology at the University of Michigan, where he also serves as Director of the Michigan Alzheimer’s Disease Center. Dr. Paulson received his MD and PhD degrees from Yale University, completed residency and fellowship training at the University of Pennsylvania, and previously taught at the University of Iowa. His research and clinical interests concern the causes and treatment of age-related neurodegenerative diseases, with an emphasis on repeat expansion diseases and age-related dementias. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a recipient of the Landis Outstanding Mentor Award from the National Institutes of Health.

Research Overview
Dr. Paulson's basic and clinical research focuses on age-related neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's and related dementias as well as hereditary movement disorders including the ataxias. He directs the Michigan Alzheimer's Disease Center, which supports a wide range research projects to understand the causes and treatment of cognitive impairment. His laboratory studies the molecular mechanisms of various neurodegenerative diseases, with the goal of identifying therapeutic targets that can lead to treatments for currently fatal disorders.
