  • About

I am passionate about helping people access the high-quality, affordable infertility care they need to build their families.

I am a Professor of Urology and Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Michigan. In addition, I direct the University of Michigan’s Male Fertility Preservation Program and am the Director of Strategy for the Department of Urology.

Clinically, I am an expert in the advanced treatment of male infertility. I also teach medical students and residents about male infertility and health care policy.

My research program focuses on reproductive health policy with a special emphasis on access to infertility care, including insurance coverage for infertility. My team and I are studying the impact of insurance coverage for in-vitro fertilization (IVF) on the health outcomes of women and infants, on health care costs, and on IVF use among less affluent and younger women. I also led a study, published in JAMA, about the impact of the University of Michigan’s decision to start covering infertility for its 35,000+ employees. My research has been used by employers and other policymakers in their deliberations about expanding insurance coverage for infertility.

In 2017, I was awarded the American Urological Association (AUA) James Gallagher Health Policy Scholarship. I also served as Chair of the Health Policy Council of the North Central Section of the AUA from 2017-2019. I served on the Board of Directors of the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction (SSMR) from 2018-2020 and from 2022 to present, currently as President of the society. I began serving on the Board of Directors of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) in 2024.
