    Dr. Alexander serves as the Older Adult Falls Content Lead at the U-M Injury Prevention Center. He is the Ivan Duff Collegiate Professor of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at University of Michigan (U-M), and Director of the VA Ann Arbor Health Care System (VAAAHSC) Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC). He is chair of the U-M Hospital Falls Committee and leader of the U-M Mobility Assessment and Enhancement (falls) clinic. He is also Director of the U-M Mobility Research Center which focuses on mobility in older adults, and co-leader of the NIA-funded U-M Older Americans Independence Center Biomechanics Core and leader of the Research Education Core both of which are committed to supporting junior faculty in developing assessment and intervention protocols for older adults.

    Research Overview

    Dr. Alexander has a special interest in exercise, mobility, falls and rehabilitation in older adults. The primary focus of his work is assessments and interventions to enhance mobility and physical activity in both able and disabled older adults, with studies of mechanisms underlying aerobic, strength, and balance function.
