Dr. Kerr has dedicated her research career to understanding how to more effectively translate advancements from clinical and translational research to routine practice in order to improve patients’ health and health care. In particular, she is internationally recognized for developing innovative, clinically meaningful methods to assess and improve quality of care and decrease low value care. She has led major studies that demonstrated a significant VA quality advantage over community care, developed “clinical action measures” to improve the intensity of blood pressure treatment that were implemented VA-wide, and developed new measures that assess and promote appropriate care. In addition to her faculty appointment and role as Division Chief, General Medicine, in the Department of Internal Medicine, Dr. Kerr is a Senior Research Scientist at the VA Ann Arbor Center for Clinical Management Research (CCMR), and the Founding Director of the Michigan Program on Value Enhancement (MPrOVE). Dr. Kerr has been recognized for her scholarship, leadership, and mentorship through election to the National Academy of Medicine, Association of American Physicians, and American Society of Clinical Investigation, selection as a Master of the American College of Physicians, and through the VA Undersecretary for Health Award for Excellence in Health Services Research and the Society of General Internal Medicine John M. Eisenberg National Award for Career Achievement in Research.
