  • About

Dr. Shantanu Warhadpande is the Program Director of the Integrated IR/DR Residency at the University of Michigan, where he leads educational strategy with an emphasis on clinical excellence, multidisciplinary care, and trainee development within interventional radiology.

Dr. Warhadpande completed his surgical internship and diagnostic radiology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where he was selected as a Chief Resident in his final year. He went on to complete fellowship training in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, one of the nation’s most clinically-esteemed IR programs.

He is a nationally recognized educator and leader within the Society of Interventional Radiology, where he previously served as Governing Council Chair of the Resident/Fellow Section. He has authored over 25 peer-reviewed publications, presented extensively at national meetings, and is co-editor and co-author of The Pocketbook of Clinical IR: A Concise Guide to Interventional Radiology, one of the most popular reference books used by IR trainees.

Clinically, Dr. Warhadpande has developed a high-volume embolotherapy practice. Within academia, he has one of the highest-volume Prostate Artery Embolization (PAE) practices in the country, performing 2–6 cases weekly. He co-developed and co-leads a multidisciplinary Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) clinic alongside Dr. Neil Pugashetti, representing one of the first cross-specialty multidisciplinary BPH programs of its kind.

In addition to his robust PAE practice, Dr. Warhadpande also has expertise in Geniculate Artery Embolization (GAE), Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE), and other advanced embolotherapies.

His other clinical interests include image-guided oncologic and non-oncologic interventions, including tumor ablations, nerve ablations, and bony radiofrequency ablation with cementoplasty.

Dr. Warhadpande is frequently an invited lecturer (both nationally and institutionally) for IR, gastroenterology, critical care, palliative care, and urology audiences.
