Dermatology Rotation for Visiting Medical Students

Students from medical schools outside the University of Michigan are welcome to apply for a visiting dermatology rotation in our department through the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) website. We offer 4-week in-person rotations, which align with the University of Michigan Medical School academic calendar:

  • Period 06: 6/8/26-7/5/26
  • Period 07: 7/6/26-8/2/26
  • Period 08: 8/3/26-8/30/26
  • Period 09: 8/31/26-9/27/26
  • Period 10: 9/28/26-10/25/26

How to Apply

Applicants are asked to submit their curriculum vitae (CV), medical school transcript, one letter of recommendation, and a personal statement including reasons for interest in the University of Michigan Department of Dermatology.

The VSLO application cycle starts February 3, 2026. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The deadline to submit an application is April 10, 2026, and further applications after this deadline will not be reviewed. We hope to extend invitations by the end of April for the available rotation periods.

For students applying to the Health Equity Visiting Clerkship (HEVC), your interest the HEVC should also be mentioned in your personal statement. NOTE: There is a separate application process for consideration for the HEVC, please see additional information below.

Although we will try to accommodate date requests, this may not always be feasible. Due to scheduling constraints, we are unable to do alternate rotation dates. Invitation and participation in a visiting elective at the University of Michigan does not guarantee an invitation for a dermatology residency interview in the upcoming application cycle.

Application Deadline

We will begin accepting applications February 3, 2026. The deadline to submit an application is April 10, 2026.
