Mission Statement

The mission of the Michigan Biology of Cardiovascular Aging Center is to advance scientific understanding of the mechanisms driving cardiovascular aging and age-related heart diseases. Through collaborative and inclusive research, we investigate how biological aging influences cardiovascular health, integrate insights from diverse disciplines, and foster partnerships across the scientific community. Our goal is to discover novel therapeutic strategies that improve cardiovascular outcomes and promote healthy aging for all.

Research

Michigan Biology Of Cardiovascular Aging program is made up of various research labs that share a common ground of Cardiovascular Aging research.

Education

Educating and training junior faculty and future leaders to run cutting-edge research is at the heart of M-BoCA.

People

We are focused on aging and cardiovascular disease that enhances collaborative research knowledge between team members, and others.

Liu Liu, PhD

I provide bioinformatics consulting for collaborators working across regenerative biology, cellular reprogramming, functional genomics, and translational biomedical research.

My background combines 10+ years of work in cardiac regeneration, fibroblast reprogramming, iPSC differentiation, single-cell omics, computational biology, and AI/ML for therapeutic discovery.

I help investigators translate biological and clinical questions into analytical strategies, reproducible workflows, and interpretable results across transcriptomic, clinical, immune-profiling, and other high-dimensional datasets.

My consulting work supports study design, data analysis, candidate prioritization, and manuscript- and grant-ready scientific outputs, with particular strength in projects involving cell-state conversion, perturbation biology, and regenerative systems.

Annual MBoCA Symposium

Each year M-BoCA hosts a large-scale symposium to bring even greater cardiovascular and aging collaboration to the University of Michigan. This year's symposium was held on Tuesday, October 21st in the Danto Auditorium at the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, with our keynote speaker being Peter Libby, MD from Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital. Photos from the symposium are now available for viewing.
