Bell Lab

Translating mechanisms into strategies that improve immune checkpoint blockade in colorectal cancer and breast cancer.

Our laboratory is driven by an urgent question: what makes immunotherapy fail in cancer treatment? Cytotoxic T cells are built to kill tumor cells, yet in colorectal cancer and breast cancer, that killing frequently fails. We study the molecular mechanisms of T cell attack and the resistance pathways tumors use to subvert this process. Our goal is to translate these mechanisms into strategies that improve immune checkpoint blockade in colorectal cancer and breast cancer, while also exploring how T-cell induced ferroptosis shapes tissue damage in inflammatory bowel disease. We're a dynamic, collaborative team with mentorship at the center, building an environment where trainees grow as rigorous, creative scientists while tackling questions that matter.
