Motivational Interviewing Continuing Medical Education
Using the principles of Motivational Interviewing and ViiV Healthcare's Risk to Reasons framework, this content is designed to guide providers in implementing patient-centered HIV prevention and care, such as PrEP, by focusing on what motivates and empowers cisgender women to take charge of their sexual health. Rather than focusing solely on risk, the approach helps providers reframe the conversation around each patient’s personal values, goals, and reasons, supporting informed and confident decision-making.
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:
- Explain the basics of Motivational Interviewing and the Risk to Reasons approach, and how they can support women in making decisions about HIV prevention and care.
- Demonstrate having conversations that focus on what matters most to each woman, like her values, goals, and reasons for staying healthy, rather than just talking about risk.
- Learn and implement simple, practical strategies to bring this approach into everyday reproductive care, making it easier to talk about options like PrEP in a way that feels empowering.
