Welcome Dr. Ravi Allada, New MNI Executive Director

Drs. Marschall Runge and Steve Kunkel officially announced the appointment of Ravi Allada, M.D., as the Michigan Neuroscience Institute’s (MNI) Executive Director, effective September 1, 2023.

Ravi and his family at the Big House.

Ravi came to us after 23 years at Northwestern University, most recently as a Distinguished Professor of Neuroscience and Chair of the Department of Neurobiology.

Ravi takes the reins of MNI from Drs. Shelly Flagel and Hank Paulson, who led the MNI as interim co-directors since March 2020, and Drs. Huda Akil and Stan Watson led the institute under the monikers of the Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience Institute and the MNI between 1995-2020. Thanks to Huda, Stan, Shelly, and Hank for their leadership, friendship, and all they have done to support and enhance Michigan’s neuroscience community.

Ravi is a native Michigander, having grown up in Midland and earning his B.S. and M.D. at the University of Michigan. His family is U-M football season ticket holders, so say hello if you see him at the Big House this fall!

Ravi is currently setting up his lab at NCRC and preparing for faculty onboarding, so the excitement for his arrival is growing daily. Dr. Allada’s first order of business will be meeting MNI’s members and learning more about the amazing neuroscience research happening at U-M. He would appreciate feedback from neuroscience faculty, postdocs, students, and staff on MNI-related issues that are important to you, so please send your thoughts to him directly at [email protected].

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Allada to MNI!
