The Mission of the University of Michigan Center for Disability Health and Wellness (U-M CDHW) is to develop and apply innovative research, clinical, and educational strategies to address inequities in healthcare access, quality, and outcomes experienced by individuals with physical, sensory and developmental disabilities across the lifespan. Clinician/Provider Training
On Friday, April 17, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the Center for Disability Health and Wellness will host “Key Disability Health Competencies and Care Principles for Clinicians.”
This full-day professional development event will focus on enhancing disability health competencies among clinicians from a wide range of disciplines, including medicine, nursing, pharmacy, psychology, and physical and occupational therapy.
Through six expert-led presentations, participants will gain valuable knowledge and practical skills aligned with the core competencies identified by the Alliance for Disability in Healthcare (ADH). The event is designed to support clinicians in delivering inclusive, high-quality care for patients with disabilities.

Research and Policy Briefs offer summaries of studies focused on health, accessibility, and quality of life for people with disabilities. Topics include healthcare use, transportation, and the impact of neighborhoods and policies—all aimed at informing better support and inclusion.

Facilitating the Self-Management of Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) E-Learning Course: An Online Course for Primary Care Physicians and Other Health Professionals
Physicians, allied health professionals, and student trainees are invited to participate in a study designed to enhance the knowledge, attitude and ability of healthcare providers to partner with individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) in managing their health in order to promote improved outcomes and better quality of life.

SCI Research Advocacy Course (External course)
Developed by The North American Spinal Cord Injury Consortium (NASCIC), this free online course aims to present information and resources necessary to understand the complexities of an SCI. This will ultimately aid individuals with SCI and caregivers to serve as research advocates, as well as allow SCI researchers and healthcare providers to effectively partner with the SCI community.
