University of Michigan Sleep Medicine fellowship alumni are sharing their clinical and research expertise in communities across the globe.

Sleep Medicine Fellowship

Our alumni are established in academic settings, group practices, industry collaborations both in the US and internationally. U-M fellowship alumni are also actively involved in sleep and national sleep societies.

Alumni functions include a annual Michigan football tailgate and game along with a Alumni Reunion during the annual SLEEP meeting. We also have an online community through the University of Michigan Alumni Association where alumni, current fellows, and faculty interact together.

Take a look at alumni testimonials, which can be found on the AASM website, linked here, and listed below:

Alumni Testimonials

The fellowship was a great experience and instrumental to my career. The strong emphasis on teaching really set it apart from the other programs that I looked at. There is a culture of caring where staff are really invested in the success of their alumni.

Quite simply, my time at UM SDC provided the bedrock for my eventual and evolving career. Under the mentorship of Dr. Chervin and his fellows I discovered the fundamental wonders and properties of sleep, sleep medicine and patient care priorities. From doctoral student, to tenured professor, research dean to CEO, Michigan Sleep Medicine has provided me with the tools I have needed to succeed in my professional life.

Attending University of Michigan to complete a Sleep Medicine Fellowship has been the best decision of my life. I completed my Residency in Family Medicine at University of California, Riverside School of Medicine (UCR) and moved to Ann Arbor in 2015. From the very first day of fellowship, the faculty made us feel welcome. As time progressed, it no longer felt like I was going to work, but rather like I was going to my second home.

We participated in many multidisciplinary rounds that allowed for a broad and comprehensive approach to analyzing and treating sleep disorders in patients. We were trained by sleep medicine faculty who are ENTs, Psychiatrists, Pediatric Pulmonologists, Internists, and Adult and Pediatric Neurologists. We also participated in cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia. By the end of the year, I became very close to many of my faculty members and to this day they are my mentors.

The knowledge base and connections I have established at University of Michigan have given me the tools to advance my career with excellent patient care. I currently operate a 4-bed sleep lab in Southern California. We provide comprehensive sleep care like consultations, sleep studies, PAP supplies, and cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia.

In 2023 I was elected to start a new Sleep Medicine Fellowship program in Southern California (Temecula). With the help of my Michigan faculty, I was able to navigate the process and gain accreditation. I currently serve as the Program Director for Southwest Healthcare MEC in Temecula, CA.

The decision to move to a new city or to complete a sleep fellowship may be confusing as an applicant; but as an alumni of the program, I highly recommend it. Training here is exceptional and balanced. As a fellow you will be prepared to work in an academic or private practice setting.
