Microbial DNA Extraction

Our DNA extraction service has been automated for high-throughput performance using the Eppendorf EpMotion liquid handling system and KingFisher automated purification system. We offer two Qiagen kits:

•  The Qiagen MagAttract PowerMicrobiome kit is our preferred extraction kit for samples going into the 16S rRNA sequencing workflow as it yields high quality DNA from stool, gut, and other host-associated specimens. The DNA yielded by this kit is also suitable for shotgun metagenomics and other downstream applications. If you use this service, a bead plate will need to be collected from the Core lab for specimen loading.
• We also offer the MagAttract Microbial DNA Kit for microbial culture samples. Clients can submit pelletized cultures in a 96-well, 2ml deep well plate (please see the Microbial DNA specimen loading guide below for more information).

The DNA extraction service includes DNA quantification using the Picogreen Assay and can be bundled with our other services or as a stand-alone project.
