Brehm Center
Supporting Translational Diabetes Research to Accelerate Scientific Discovery and Innovation
The Brehm Center for Diabetes Research was named for Bill and Delores (Dee) Brehm, a couple whose generosity and dedication in finding a cure has led to an all-out assault on type 1 diabetes.
Leaders in Diabetes Innovation & Collaboration
By harnessing expertise in basic science and clinical research to speed the translation into new therapies and prevention strategies, the Brehm Center brings together diabetes researchers, clinicians and educators to develop new models of innovation and collaboration.
- Team Science: Create a team of leaders and scientists with the skills and experience and space to expand and enrich the search for the cure. Professorships, Coalitions, and recruitment of new talent make this possible.
- Systems Analysis: Utilize learning health system methods to better address existing barriers to science and the development of therapies, and tackle important and complex diabetes management through precision health techniques.
- Discovery: Furthering innovations to advance science more rapidly, such as through the Islet Program, which is uncovering important new aspects of islet biology, positioning U-M as a top center for islet research in the world.
- Scholarship: Providing tuition support for undergraduate and medical school is a key part of the Brehm Center’s goal to inspire a diversified community of future leaders and scientists.
