Fort Lab

Welcome to the Fort Lab

Our laboratory primarily focuses on neurodegenerative disorders and the molecular mechanisms involved. We seek to understand how neurodegenerative disorders affect intrinsic protective mechanisms leading to cell death and functional deficits. In parallel, we are also using discovery approaches in human tissues to identify previously unknown molecular mechanisms which could point out to new biomarkers as well as novel therapeutic targets. The ultimate goal of our laboratory is to develop methods to improve cellular survival and maintain or restore neuronal function to improve the lives of people living with neurodegenerative diseases including diabetic retinal disease.

Support the Future of Vision Care

The Fort Laboratory is investigating neurodegenerative disorders and the underlying molecular mechanisms. We aim to understand how neurodegenerative disorders impact intrinsic protective mechanisms, leading to cell death and functional deficits. This vital work is made possible by the generosity of our donors, and you can help ensure its continuation with your gift today. To donate, simply visit https://victors.us/FortLab.

If you would like to learn more about our work and explore other ways to make a difference, please don't hesitate to contact our development team. They would be delighted to discuss your interests and goals, as well as how you can contribute to our efforts in advancing vision care to help people everywhere.

Mary Tyler Moore Vision Ocular Biorepository and Resource Center

Mary Tyler Moore Vision Ocular Biorepository and Resource Center (MTM-BRC) is a first-of-its-kind initiative dedicated to accelerating discoveries that will restore and preserve vision for people living with diabetes. Established in partnership with leading academic, clinical, and industry collaborators, the MTM-BRC integrates human eye and tissue donation with advanced imaging, molecular, and data-driven research. By combining cutting-edge omics technologies, retinal imaging, and comprehensive clinical characterization, the MTM-BRC provides an unparalleled resource for understanding diabetic retinopathy and related retinal complications. Through this effort, researchers worldwide can access high-quality, well-annotated samples and data to uncover the biological mechanisms driving vision loss — and to translate those insights into transformative therapies.
