Why Join?

The lab focuses on the molecular underpinnings of adrenocortical growth in development and cancer. Dr. Hammer's laboratory's goals are to characterize the adrenocortical stem/progenitor cell population and elucidate how altered regulation of these cells contributes to adrenocortical disease, namely hypoplasias, dysplasias and cancer.

The Hammer laboratory is sought-after by students and research fellows alike. Because of the unique mix of faculty researchers and clinical personnel, that provides an ideal training ground for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows looking for experience in specialized medical research in the field of Endocrinology and Oncology. The graduate students who carry out research in our lab are often supported by training grants available within the University.

To date, Dr. Hammer has mentored 17 PhD students including our three current PhD candidates. In addition, he has supported 21 postdoctoral fellows who received training in his lab including our three current research fellows. Dr. Hammer has also served a number of medical professionals and budding research minds ranging from visiting medical and graduate students to scientific development committees for clinicians and research faculty.

Currently, Dr. Hammer's lab consists of:

  • Three post-doctoral research fellows
  • Three graduate students (PhD candidates)
  • Two faculty researchers
  • Three undergraduate research assistants
  • One attending Endocrine surgeon who employs
    • One research fellow
    • One research scientist
