Provider Education & Training Resources
Disability Education & Training for Providers
Effective, inclusive healthcare for people with disabilities begins with knowledge, skills, and compassion. Yet, very few healthcare training programs comprehensively address the needs of people with disabilities. As a result, many primary care providers, residents, and medical students report feeling unprepared to deliver equitable care, which can lead to unintentional bias and inaccessible services. These barriers can discourage people with disabilities from seeking care, sometimes with serious consequences.
To support providers in delivering high-quality, disability-competent care, we have curated a set of evidence-based training and educational resources. Organized by disability type, these materials are designed to deepen your understanding, foster inclusive practices, and build confidence in caring for all patients.
Intellectual and/or Development Disability (I/DD)
We are pleased to share our comprehensive recommendations to support providers in delivering effective, inclusive care to patients with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD). This resource outlines best practices for communication, clinical interactions, and accommodations to help ensure equitable healthcare for people with I/DD.
