A mobile platform for organizing, sharing, and coordinating caregiving across individuals, families, and communities.

Overview

CHCR partnered with the University of Michigan Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury Center and the Toyota Way Forward Fund to design and develop CareCircle, a mobile application that helps people organize and share caregiving information.

CareCircle provides a simple, centralized way to coordinate care across individuals and groups, supporting use cases such as recovery from injury, ongoing caregiving, and community-based support.

The Need

Caregiving often involves multiple people and fragmented communication.

Information is typically spread across:

  • Text messages
  • Emails
  • Documents and notes
  • Photos and videos

This makes it difficult to:

  • Keep everyone aligned
  • Share clear instructions
  • Maintain continuity of care
  • Provide consistent support over time

What We Built

CHCR developed a native mobile application that enables users to create and manage private caregiving communities.

Core Features

  • Create “care circles” to organize caregiving around a person, situation, or need
  • Invite family members, caregivers, or collaborators
  • Share content including text, PDFs, images, and videos
  • Organize content into structured collections
  • Control access with private or public settings
  • Approve or restrict who can join a circle
  • Create groups and limit content visibility by audience
  • Offline access to saved content, including media

How It Works

Users can either:

  • Be invited into an existing care circle
  • Or download the app and create their own

Within each circle, users can:

  • Add and organize caregiving information
  • Share updates and instructions
  • Provide resources for others involved in care

This creates a centralized, structured space for communication and coordination.

Use Cases

CareCircle supports a wide range of scenarios, including:

  • Pediatric TBI recovery and care coordination
  • Family caregiving and post-discharge support
  • Ongoing health or chronic condition management
  • Pet, home, or personal care coordination
  • Community or organizational awareness and support

Impact

  • Publicly launched on iOS and Android
  • Thousands of active users
  • Supporting both individual and organizational use cases

Platform Flexibility

CareCircle is designed for both personal and organizational use.

Individuals can manage caregiving within families or small groups, while organizations can create circles to share information, resources, and support broader communities.
