About the NeuroNetwork
Neuronetwork lab staff

Where scientists create cures.

The NeuroNetwork for Emerging Therapies (NeuroNetwork) at Michigan Medicine is an exciting evolution from the Program for Neurology Research and Discovery, which began in 2000. As the lab celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2020, it was time to recognize where we had been and articulate our vision for the future.

We are unwavering in our work to accelerate scientific discovery to alleviate suffering in neurological diseases.

Our work in recent years highlights that we will not reach this goal alone. Every day, we work with a passionate, innovative, diverse, multidisciplinary team of researchers and physician-scientists at the forefront of biomedical research.

We draw upon our expertise and our innovative collaborations, both within the University of Michigan and worldwide, to accelerate the pace of scientific discovery and support emerging therapies for neurological diseases.

OUR VISION
ACCELERATE SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY TO ALLEVIATE SUFFERING IN NEUROLOGICAL DISEASES.
OUR MISSION
A PASSIONATE, INNOVATIVE MULTI-DISCIPLINARY TEAM AT THE FOREFRONT OF DISCOVERING EMERGING THERAPIES FOR THE TREATMENT OF NEUROLOGICAL DISEASES.
OUR PROMISE
WITH THE BRIGHTEST MINDS WORKING TOGETHER, THE NEURONETWORK FOR EMERGING THERAPIES IS WHERE SCIENTISTS CREATE CURES.
Developing the Network

In 2000, a group of neurologists and neuroscientists at the University of Michigan Medical School came together to form what was then known as the Program for Neurology Research & Discovery (PNR&D). Led by Eva L. Feldman, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.N.A., F.A.A.N., James W. Albers Distinguished University Professor, and Russell N. DeJong Professor of Neurology, the lab grew to 30-plus scientists, clinicians, and students who worked toward the common goal of understanding and curing neurological diseases. This group is now known as the NeuroNetwork for Emerging Therapies.

Twenty years ago, labs were normally established and run by a single physician-scientist, in our case, Dr. Feldman. This approach served medicine well; many breakthroughs and discoveries came from the PNR&D.

Fast-forward 20 years, and so much has changed: our understanding of diseases, discoveries of their underlying causes, and, perhaps most importantly, our reliance on and use of technology.

The result of all these advances means that today, medical science is not a one-person show. While our lab has grown to over 30 scientists, clinicians, and students, truly meaningful scientific advancements will not happen in one lab alone. It requires many great minds and specialists working together, collaborating, creating, discovering, and ultimately treating patients.

Some say it takes a village.

We say it takes a Network.
Our Foundation
Network

A multi-disciplinary team of researchers, scientists, and physicians at the forefront of biomedical research.

Discovery

Advancing our knowledge and treatment of neurological diseases with an unwavering commitment to understanding the present and discovering what’s next.

Translational Work

Bench to bedside, bringing help, healing, and cures to patients, always keeping in mind for whom and why we do this work.
