TI Innovation Program funds three new projects
Three outstanding groups of Michigan Medicine biomedical researchers have been tapped for the latest Taubman Institute Innovation Project awards.
They include programs that address a rare skin cancer, the study of hypertensive pregnancies, and a device for treating sleep apnea in adults and children.
TIIPs include financial grants, membership in the community of Taubman scientists, and guidance from the project management staff of the Taubman Institute.
New Emerging Scholars tapped for early-career grants
Three physician-researchers have been awarded five-year early-career grants to accelerate their scientific programs.

Director Burant honored with prestigious award
TI Director Charles F. Burant, MD, PhD, was honored with the prestigious Donald F. Steiner Award at the University of Chicago.
The award was established in 2007 as a tribute to Dr. Steiner, a noted endocrinologist, to recognize those who have made significant contributions in the field of diabetes discovery.
The honor is of particular significance, Dr. Burant said, because the late Dr. Steiner was a respected mentor and good friend.

Dr. Feldman re-elected to National Academy of Medicine Council
“The Taubman Emerging Scholar grant helped my research lab develop a new strategy to improve brain tumor treatments by inhibiting abnormal metabolism in these cancers.
These findings have led to long-term funding from the National Cancer Institute and a clinical trial for patients with brain tumors here at the University of Michigan.
Without support from the Emerging Scholars Program, early-career faculty like me might not have the resources to turn creative scientific ideas into long-term research programs and clinical trials.”
