In 2007, Michigan businessman and philanthropist, the late A. Alfred Taubman, provided the funds to create the A. Alfred Taubman Medical Research Institute. His vision was to accelerate medical discovery by physician-researchers by providing unrestricted funding so that they could follow their boldest, most innovative ideas in the quest to alleviate human suffering.
Eva L. Feldman, MD, PhD, a noted neurologist and researcher, was appointed as founding director of the institute. Eminent Michigan Medicine faculty were selected as the first Taubman Scholars. These talented leaders helped to shape the mission and values of the institute, establishing it as a prestigious and productive hub that attracts the best and brightest at the University of Michigan.
