Michigan Neuroscience Institute

Leveraging U-M's science and engineering advances to solve the brain's mysteries, advance human health, and address society's challenges.

Ken Kwan, Ph.D.

The brain is the most complex organ in the human body. Understanding its complexities - both normally and in disease - requires teams of scientists employing a broad range of research methods. The Michigan Neuroscience Institute (MNI) connects research investigators from across the University of Michigan campus to probe the mysteries of the brain on a cellular, molecular and behavioral level.

From MNI's Executive Director

The study of the brain is really about the study of who we are. Diseases of the brain touch virtually every family—the problems of suicide, gun violence, and mental illness, the opioid crisis and substance abuse, dementia and neurodegenerative disease.
