Michigan Urology Academy (MUA)
The Michigan Urology Academy (MUA) at U-M Medical School Department of Urology is committed to advancing urologic education by providing medical students with expert-led virtual learning and a highly selective, immersive in-person training experience designed to inspire and prepare the next generation of urologists.
All medical students interested in urology are encouraged to apply for the MUA virtual workshop. The MUA virtual workshop covers topics that are applicable to MS1 starting their journeys in urology to MS3 who are ready to apply to urology residency.

About the MUA Experience
Twelve MS3 MUA applicants without a home urology program will be invited to participate in an all-expense-paid immersive in-person workshop in Ann Arbor, MI. The workshop will cover sub I do’s and don’ts, a personal statement review workshop, hands-on Sim lab experience and practice interview workshop.

Program Overview
The Michigan Urology Academy (MUA) workshop offers comprehensive guidance for medical students interested in urology, covering topics such as research and scholars program opportunities, how to find mentorship and financial support, evaluating the quality of research projects, tips for selecting sub-internships, and navigating the urology residency interview process. Through these workshops, students gain valuable insights and practical tools to help them succeed in pursuing a career in urology.
How to Apply
All current medical students are eligible to apply for the virtual Michigan Urology Academy workshop. Only students in their third year of medical school will be considered for the in-person Ann Arbor experience. If you are not residing in the United States, please contact the MUA coordinator for eligibility verification for in-person MUA.

The in-person MUA workshop offers several unique opportunities that are not available in the virtual format, including:

Multiple chances to meet and network with faculty, residents, recent medical school graduates, and fellows
Yes, you can attend both virtual and in-person MUA workshops if you are selected for the in-person program. Both workshop formats are unique and offer different content and experiences, so participating in both can be valuable for your development.
No. Only rising MS4s (MS3 at time of application) students will be considered for selection to the in-person, all-expenses-paid workshop in Ann Arbor, MI. Applicants from U.S. territories and Canada may also be considered for the in-person workshop; however, please email Julia or Natalie for confirmation regarding eligibility.
From the pool of virtual program applicants, 12 rising MS4s are selected for the in-person workshop. The selection process is typically conducted by a review committee that assesses each applicant holistically, considering all components of the application.
No prior research experience is required; the program is designed to support students at all stages of their urology interest.
There is no cost for the virtual workshop. The in-person experience is all-expenses-paid for selected students.
Certain U.S. territories and Canada may also be considered for the in-person workshop. Please email Julia or Natalie to confirm your eligibility.
Program times have not yet been finalized, but sessions are usually held for a few hours each evening, apart from Saturday, which may feature a session during the late morning or early afternoon (Eastern Time).
