History of Medicine & Public Health
Contributing high-impact publications, research, mentorship and scholarships to the U-M Medical School's mission.
About
Since its original founding in 1990, the primary goal of the CHHASSEM discipline area in the History of Medicine and Public Health has been to explore the ways history can help inform our understanding of illness and disease, health, and healthcare. We also seek to foster an appreciation of the rich history of the University of Michigan Medical School, including its pioneering role in transforming medical education, the important work its alumni have conducted throughout the decades, and the hidden stories of those individuals and groups that have often been left out of traditional narratives.
Through research, education, and outreach, we seek to provide the campus community with an opportunity to learn about the history of medicine and public health and to cultivate an appreciation of the importance of such work.
