Traditional Thoracic Surgery Fellowship

The U-M Medical School Department of Cardiac Surgery offers a two-year, ACGME-accredited Traditional Thoracic Surgery Fellowship for surgeons who have completed a residency in general or vascular surgery.

How to Apply

The Traditional Thoracic Surgery Fellowship program is a participant in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Our program also participates in signaling.

To assure a complete and timely review of your application, we strongly recommend that all materials are posted on the ERAS system prior to the opening date, if possible.

Curriculum

The Traditional Thoracic Surgery Fellowship at the U-M Medical School is a comprehensive program that provides exposure to a diverse case mix of adult cardiac and thoracic patients, offering extensive training in preoperative evaluation and postoperative management across the full spectrum of cardiothoracic conditions.

Fellows receive personalized mentorship from highly regarded faculty through structured didactic education, simulation training, and other valuable learning opportunities. In addition to developing advanced surgical skills, fellows have opportunities to participate in scholarly research, preparing them to excel as cardiothoracic surgeons as well as grow into scientific innovators who translate research discoveries into clinical breakthroughs.
