PM&R Medical Student Programs
Medical students interested in exploring the field of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation will find a wide range of meaningful clinical experiences at the University of Michigan Medical School.
Our rotations offer in-depth exposure to both inpatient and outpatient care, with opportunities to learn from a diverse team of specialists across multiple areas of rehabilitation medicine. Senior medical students can arrange a two- or four-week rotation.

Goals of the Program
Training Future Leaders in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
The goals of our program are to:
- Provide medical students with immersive, hands-on exposure to the breadth and depth of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
- Equip students with a solid foundation in interdisciplinary rehabilitation care, procedural knowledge, and patient-centered approaches
- Foster early interest in PM&R as a future specialty
What You Will Learn
Rotation Opportunities
- Inpatient Care: Engage with patients in general medical rehabilitation, neurologic rehabilitation, pediatric rehabilitation and spinal cord rehabilitation units.
- Outpatient Clinics: Gain exposure to adaptive sports medicine, amputee clinics, cancer rehabilitation, electrodiagnostic medicine (EMG), head injury/stroke management, musculoskeletal (MSK) care, pediatric rehabilitation, spasticity treatment, spinal cord injury management, spine/pain management, wheelchair seating and various rehabilitation therapies at our outpatient facilities.
