Interventional Radiology Residency
Unique Training Experience
We train physicians to be expert diagnostic radiologists and distinguished in the clinical practice of interventional radiology.
Leaders in Interventional Radiology
The U-M Medical School Department of Radiology's Interventional Radiology (IR) Residency program provides a broader and more in-depth experience in the clinical diagnosis and care of patients with diseases commonly treated by interventional radiologists. Strong training in diagnostic radiology (DR) will prepare the trainee to obtain ABR certification, while utilizing these skills to plan image-guided interventions.
IR trainees are actively involved as primary operators, involved with inpatient consultation, as well as outpatient clinics. With one of the highest trainee to procedure ratios in the country, trainees will have the opportunity to function with graduated levels of supervision, including pre-procedure evaluation of patients, various vascular and nonvascular procedures, consultation with clinicians, admission to the interventional radiology service, and post-procedure follow-up care.

How to Apply
The Interventional Radiology Residency is a 6-year integrated program that begins in the PGY-1 year with a surgical internship prior to radiology training. Three positions are available each year and are filled through the National Resident Matching Program. Applications for residency positions are processed through the Electronic Residency Application Service. Applications are processed and interviews are offered on a rolling basis.
To assure a complete and timely review of your application, we strongly recommend that all materials are posted on the ERAS system prior to the opening date of ERAS, or as close to this date as possible.
