Enrichment Events

The Caswell Diabetes Institute is committed to supporting diabetes-, obesity-, metabolism-, nutrition- and complications- (DOMNC) related educational/enrichment activities at the University of Michigan, ensuring the robust exchange of ideas and the stimulation of interactions and collaborations relevant to DOMNC-related research and care.

Calendar of Events

The Caswell Diabetes Institute Metabolism, Obesity, Nutrition, and Diabetes Symposium is an annual one-day event showcasing the research of early-stage investigators and innovative new research by CDI, MCDTR, MDRC, and MNORC members from across UM’s schools and departments. Additionally, the symposium features keynote talks from leading researchers and practitioners external to UM, a poster-session, and a data blitz.

The Caswell Diabetes Institute Seminar Series features:

  • Plenary seminar events addressing the broad interests in diabetes-, obesity-, metabolism-, nutrition-, and complications-related research and care across the University of Michigan campus and worldwide
  • Exciting research from our own CDI faculty and trainees
  • Translational and clinical research talks
  • Three of CDI’s established research clubs (Integrative Aspects of Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism, Cellular Aspects of Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism, and Neuroendocrine Control of Metabolism), among others.

The seminar series runs from September through May at NCRC every Monday from 12-1pm.

The Community Seminar Series consists of seminars hosted at the Ann Arbor District Library branches. Each seminar features leading researchers, clinicians, and patient advocates discussing advances in diabetes research, care, prevention, and management. Sessions include Question and Answer segments, panel discussions, and opportunities for participants to share their personal experiences and ask tailored questions.

The goal of the Community Seminar Series is to educate and connect with the community, build visibility and foster trust, and to learn from the community to gain insights and inform future actions.

In partnership with the MCDTR, the MDRC, the MNORC and the Department of Molecular & Integrative Physiology, the Caswell Diabetes Institute organizes five research clubs to facilitate interactions amongst investigators, trainees, and staff with shared research interests. The research club meetings occur monthly from September to May in a hybrid format.
