HOPE Collaborative
The HOPE Collaborative, founded in 2019 by pediatric surgeons Dr. Erika Newman and Dr. Erin Perrone, has a mission to increase health equity, opportunity, pathways, and education for children and families in Michigan to create community wealth, advance broad physician diversity, and improve patient outcomes.
The collaborative has supported core student success services, professional development opportunities, and facilitated group learning. Partners have included the U-M Medical School Department of Surgery, the University of Michigan Medical School, the Doctors of Tomorrow program, the University of Michigan School of Education, the School at Marygrove, and The Edith S. Briskin/Shirley K. Schlafer Foundation.
The HOPE Collaborative and Department of Surgery have in the past hosted symposiums to bring together experts in the fields of academic medicine, social justice and public education to unify through conversation, strategy groups and creative workshops.
