Excellence in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery | Hospital Dentistry

Trainees at U-M Medical School can expect:

  • Well-rounded and well-respected training: Residents study and train with a skilled cohort of colleagues and faculty at the top-ranked U-M Medical School, Michigan Medicine and U-M School of Dentistry. Graduates complete an MD, a two-year certificate in general surgery for medical licensure and a specialty certificate in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
  • Unique case-mix and case volume: As part of a national and international destination care center, you’ll see conditions you won’t get the chance to treat elsewhere. Our busy practice in core areas of oral and maxillofacial surgery as well as multidisciplinary programs in craniofacial anomalies, sleep disorders, and oral / head and neck cancer treat patients of all ages and gives our learners a robust and broad scope of clinical experience.
  • A collegial and inclusive place to train: We pride ourselves on attracting and retaining exemplary faculty and residents who contribute to our highly regarded work environment and culture.
  • Co-located clinical facilities: With our central medical campus and our School of Dentistry situated within a one-mile radius, you’ll navigate fluidly between spaces and patient cases — a huge logistical advantage that also makes life easier by reducing commute time.
  • Expert teachers: With nine full-time faculty, including six fellowship-trained faculty, and a strong team of advanced practice providers and staff, we have one of the largest maxillofacial surgery teams in the country. Our recognized experts specialize in all facets of the specialty, providing diverse and broad exposure to residents. We are strongly committed to educating the next generation of oral and maxillofacial surgeons.
