Palliative Medicine Education

The palliative care educational programs in the Division of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine aim to train the next generation of providers and to increase the number of physicians specifically trained for the field.

We focus on innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to patient care, addressing the physical, emotional, spiritual and social concerns that arise with advanced illness. In addition to clinical training, we provide research training and academic experiences to enrich knowledge in the field of palliative medicine.

Fellowship Programs

Our palliative medicine fellowship programs include a Hospice and Palliative Medicine (Adult) Fellowship Program, Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship (Pediatric Track), and an Integrated Geriatric-Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship.

Conferences & Lectures

Our division holds regularly scheduled conferences with the majority being available for physicians to earn CME credit. The University of Michigan Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Resident Education

Physicians must provide compassionate, individualized care for dying patients. The special needs of dying patients and their families are best addressed through dedicated training under the direction of experienced hospice faculty. During this block rotation, residents are introduced to multidisciplinary care for dying patients and their families. This elective is available for residents at the HO2/3 levels.

Our fellowship programs in palliative medicine aim to develop quality experts and leaders in the field and ensure that patients receive informed, expert and appropriate care.
