Patient Care
Our clinical faculty provide expert care for patients with a large number of endocrinological and metabolic conditions including diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis, pituitary diseases, thyroid diseases, adrenal diseases, abnormalities in the reproductive axis, obesity and hyperlipidemia. We also service ongoing clinical programs for obesity and gestational diabetes, and oversee the inpatient hyperglycemia program, which is predicated on the evidence that improved glucose control limits hospital-acquired infections, improves wound healing and shortens patients length of stay.
Patient care is provided at the University of Michigan Health hospital and at outpatient facilities, including our MEND-Podiatry Clinic at Domino's Farms, Rogel Cancer Center, and U-M Health centers in East Ann Arbor, Northville, Brighton, Chelsea and Saline.
Education
The MEND Division is committed to preparing physicians and scientists of tomorrow. We have a Endocrinology Fellowship Training Program, Podiatry Fellowship Training Program, and Multidisciplinary Postdoctoral Training Program in Basic Diabetes Research.
Our division hosts several annual educational opportunities each year, including the Stefan S. Fajans Lecture in Diabetes, John C. Floyd, Jr. Memorial Fellows Lecture in Endocrinology, and David E. Schteingart Lecture in the Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology and Diabetes. We also hold regularly scheduled conferences, including our weekly clinical and research conferences, that feature the latest findings by our physicians, researchers from other areas of Michigan Medicine, and invited guest speakers.
Research
Researchers in our division are conducting exciting and innovative basic science, clinical, and outcomes-based research, all devoted to finding new ways to prevent and treat endocrine and metabolic diseases. In FY2023, our division received nearly $16 million in federal, industry, and foundation funding to support our research activities.
