Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Training Program
The U-M Medical School Department of Psychiatry's Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Training program is designed for visiting psychiatrists and physicians who are interested in establishing their own ECT program or wish to expand their skills and knowledge of modern ECT.
Participants in this program will learn how to:
- Conduct thorough ECT consultations
- Administer the ECT procedure
- Manage ECT patients through an ECT course
- Monitor outcomes and manage side effects of ECT
- Implement newer strategies in ECT practice

Program Overview
We offer a thorough one-week training experience for those that are new to ECT. Physicians who desire to update their knowledge in ECT clinical practice can also arrange a one to two-day course.
An ECT textbook and recent ECT articles are provided.
The learning experience consists of observing ECT treatments conducted by our team and didactic lectures.

- Indications for ECT
- ECT Evaluations
- Seizure Monitoring
- Nursing Role in ECT

CME Accreditation
CME credits are available for the one-week ECT training program.
