Advancing Our Understanding of Addiction
Since 1988, the Addiction Center has been a leader in prevention, treatment, and research related to substance use disorders.
Education
The Addiction Center at the U-M Medical School Department of Psychiatry is committed to education at every level, from undergraduate students to practicing clinicians. We offer specialized fellowships in addiction psychiatry, postdoctoral training in research, and opportunities for medical students and undergraduates to expand their knowledge.

Patient Care
We provide personalized, evidence-based outpatient treatment for adults, young adults, and adolescents. Our expert team addresses both substance use and co-occurring mental health concerns. We offer specialized programs for families and health professionals through the Health Professionals Recovery Program.
In U-M Addiction Treatment Services (UMATS), we welcome new patients and offer both in-person and virtual services to meet a wide range of needs.
Research
The Addiction Center leads over two dozen federally funded studies that focus on understanding, preventing, and treating substance use disorders.
Our research addresses key areas including prevention and early intervention, genetics and development, brain imaging, treatment outcomes, health services, and the connections between sleep, chronic pain, and addiction.
Giving
Addiction is often faced in private, and resources for new research and improved treatment are limited. Your gift helps to promote innovative research, prevention, interventions, and services for all ages.
